Moderaterna – the workers’ party of today

The mission of Nya Moderaterna is to solve social problems and make Sweden a better country in which to live.

As the workers’ party of today, the Moderaterna party wants to give more people more freedom and the opportunity to stand on their own two feet. We want more people to have a job. To this end, we want to cut taxes for all, but most importantly for people who earn low incomes and who therefore need it most. And to this end, we want to make it easier for businesses to start, grow and remain in Sweden.

We’re committed to protecting our common welfare and to making sure that the welfare system gets the resources it needs through more people being in work and paying tax. Our labour policy rests on three pillars: it must pay to work; companies must have the courage to employ; and businesses must want to start, stay and grow in Sweden.

Jobs are important both to people as individuals and to society as a whole. In Sweden today, far too many people feel that they’re not achieving their full potential. Increasing employment means not only that more people will feel appreciated and needed, but also that we can safeguard our welfare society. Thanks to a responsible economic policy and higher employment we are now able, for instance, to invest in our schools, hospitals, police and elderly care services.

Moderaterna – caring about Sweden

In 2006, Moderaterna and the Alliance for Sweden won the mandate of the Swedish electorate to tackle the country’s growing problems. We’re now working hard to restore the value of work and to put quality before extended benefits in all areas of the welfare system.

We care about the world, and work through such organisations as the EU and UN to foster free trade and open markets as well as development and security for more people and countries around the world. We are proactive in helping to push through international agreements on climate change. Sweden has a long tradition of being a small country with a big commitment to its international responsibilities. This is a position we intend to develop.

We have taken the decision to work alongside the Centre Party (Centerpartiet), the Liberal Party of Sweden (Folkpartiet), and the Christian Democrats (Kristdemokraterna) within the Alliance for Sweden framework, so that we can win the confidence of the voters and improve life in Sweden. We are committed as one to leading our country, and will be working together ahead of the 2010 election to earn the trust of the Swedish people once again.

Moderaterna – cutting taxes for normal income earners

It must always pay more to work than to be on benefit. The most important tax cuts to make are those that can help create new jobs, so that people can be helped out of benefit dependency and given opportunities to earn a decent living. The effect of the tax and benefit system is such that the less people earn, the less it’s worth having a job. Because of this, Moderaterna and the government have targeted most of their tax cuts at the lowest income earners. And we hope to continue to do so.
